Common Name:   Boa constrictor, Hog Island
Scientific Name:   Boa constrictor imperator
Morph:
Genetics:

DESCRIPTION
The Hog Islands, also called Cayos Cochinos are off the coast of Honduras. These small islands are home to the small race of Boa constrictor imperator.
Most of the Hog Island boas that are available today originated from wild-caught animals that were imported in the 1980's. The original wild caught animals were heavily speckeled, small, and difficult feeders. Not so with captive Hogs that are available today. Through selective breeding these snakes have become lighter and get a little larger than the original wild-caughts. Adult average length is 5-6 foot for females, and 4-5 for males. Like most boas, females are more heavily built than the males.
Hog Island boas are very docile and make excellent pets. The babys may be nippy but soon grow out of that habit. Breeding Hog Islands is fairly easy. A slight temperature drop during the winter is sufficient to induce breeding. 10-20 young are normal.
